Officially TLC in NYC Now

Like many 20-somethings in the city, I identify with the area where I grew up as home. That includes keeping my driver's license from home. So, for the past five years, I've been a Californian in NYC. But today...I decided to brave the DMV and turn this baby in to get a NY State license.

The program is actually pretty easy, all you have to do is surrender your current state license, prove who you are with a social security card and passport and then pay some money and wait for FOREVER and it's done. Well...will be done in 7-10 business days when the new photo ID card arrives.

I also may have realized that the DMV in California is more efficient than the one in NY. I showed up at 8:30, optimistic I'd be to work within an hour and a half. The DMV opens at 8:30 and when I got there, the line to get in the door was around the corner, halfway down the other block. Seriously! I almost kept walking to work giving up on the whole idea.

But, it made sense to do this and I was already right there, so 2 hours and 40 minutes later, I was done. And they do have a system in place, but really, to only have 2 stations open where you check in and get your waiting number and then to only have 6 stations open to actually do what you need to do seems a little under serviced.

The good news; I finished my library book so I can return it on time (look at me utilizing my government services!) read a Kindle short story, started a new book on Kindle, did some work emails, checked facebook, texted with my sister, played words with friends....you get the idea.

This step feels pretty big- I will always be a Californian at heart, but now my ID will say otherwise!

Last Day of Tennis ...

At least for a while. I'm taking a summer break since I'll be traveling, have Mets tickets, and it's-hot-as-hades in the gym. But I hope to be back in the fall, right after the US Open.

However, I would like to observe that I am not the worst person in the class. I don't know if there has ever been a sport/activity class where I wasn't really bad. In fact, I've improved enough that it may be time to move out of level 2. This is a big deal for me because I told the instructor a long time ago that my tennis goals are to stay in level 2 for forever. :)

We'll see- once I have a chance to get rusty over the summer, I'll need to refresh the basics with level 2.

First Polo Match

Veuve Cliquot Champagne hosts a charity Polo Match on Governor's Island once every June and this year, I finally made it. The weather was good and I had planned the day before to get up early and have my picnic supplies packed.

It was super fun- mostly fun to picnic and people watch, but Polo is a pretty cool sport too. It felt very much like Pretty Women, including the break allowing people to stomp the divets. There were some celebs but also a ton of people like my friends and I who packed up our stuff and headed out on the ferry to get to the island.

Pardon the iPhone picture, I still haven't downloaded "real" pictures from my camera. But I'll try to post those later- I have some cool shots.

The Waiting Game

I have soooooo many more interesting things to blog about but my mind is super preoccupied. I'm waiting to hear some news. I think I will know by Monday.

But in the mean time, I cannot get my brain to stop thinking about it. Good news or bad news, I picture both situations. Watching TV, my mind drifts to "the news", washing my hair in the shower, I think about the different scenarios.

I keep checking my phone, holding my breath when an email comes up, and just overall feeling silly obsessing over something that is out of my hands right now. And it isn't anything serious, everything is okay except for the fact that I'm losing my mind!

I know this is super cryptic, so I apologize, but I needed to let these thoughts out, hoping it will help the obsession while waiting. Ugh....it could end up feeling like a very long weekend.
